Nick Towle is a registered English solicitor with a law degree from Oxford University, and has over 35 years post-qualification experience in corporate and commercial law, with a specialization in telecoms.
He has provided legal advice and transaction assistance to investors, multilateral institutions and governments in emerging markets, currently in Southeast Asia where his practice has been based since 2012. Nick is an independent contractor, having spent 20 years with major UK law firms, including 12 years as a partner with three US and UK law firms. Since 1991, Nick has advised on over 120 project assignments around the world, many of these in the following key finance and business sectors:
- Telecommunications regulatory – advised the Telecommunications Regulator of Cambodia (TRC) and other regulators in Asia and worldwide on their regulatory development and supervisory activities, including spectrum auctions; providing advice to mobile operator Ooredoo in Myanmar on legal and regulatory issues such as lawful intercept, tower site leases, data protection & privacy, international airtime sales & distribution, design of regulatory compliance monitoring system
- Telecommunications mergers and acquisitions (M&A), including the sale of a mobile operator in Cambodia to Chinese buyers
- Banking & Finance – advising many banks and financial institutions in their loans to multiple borrowers in Myanmar, including IFC, ADB, Chine-Exim Bank, ING, Mitsubishi; also many loans to microfinance companies in Myanmar
- Private sector company M&A and advisory work in multiple sectors across Asia for such clients as Bloomberg, Viettel, Norfund, OPIC, Telenor, Toyota, Heineken, Hyundai.,
